A federal judge in Jefferson City heard oral arguments today in the American Civil Liberties Union’s request for an injunction against the Camdenton school district over its internet filtering policies. The ACLU claims the district’s Internet content filtering system violates First Amendment rights by blocking access to websites dealing with gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender issues. Camdenton school officials maintain their filtering software complies with federal law. The ACLU says Camdenton is one of only two school districts in the nation that didn’t change software after being contacted by them. U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey did not issue an immediate ruling.
