Business, government and law enforcement leaders turned out for Thursday’s public hearing in St. Joseph by a legislative committee examining the merger of the water patrol with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Over the past two months four hearings have been held by the committee; and, depending on who’s responding, the merger has been either “seamless” or “screwed up.” Representative Rocky Miller is one of those who believe the merger was screwed up.
Miller says the testimony he’s heard shows that the merger has not gone well and places the blame for that at the feet of Governor Jay Nixon.
The hearings come on the heels of the drowning of 20 year old Brandon Ellingson in May. Vigils are being held for him Sunday in Lake Ozark and also in Iowa and Arizona.
