A flash flood watch will be in effect through Saturday evening as heavy rainfall moves into the area – the remnants of what was Tropical Storm Gordon. Although the total rainfall will vary slightly depending on where you live, meteorologist Ray Miller with the Weather Eye Weather Center says the models tracking the storm are remaining consistent.
Expect a range of 2-5 inches for most of the coverage area, with rainfall expected to strengthen through Saturday and continue into portions of Sunday. MoDot and area first responders are urging extra caution when travelling this weekend. Heavy rainfall and localized flooding can cause dangerous conditions on the roads, ranging from hydroplaning to stalled vehicles and even having your vehicle washed away in high water. If you come upon a road that has been blocked off and closed, never drive around the barriers. If you encounter a road with high water that has not been barricaded, contact MoDot or local law enforcement. Slow down during heavy downpours and leave more space between cars. It only takes about a foot of water to float most vehicles, and even less to cause your car to stall.
