Lake Area residents may notice their food bill is a little higher these days. Missouri shoppers paid more for food in the first quarter of 2014 than the same period last year. That’s according to a market basket survey done by the Missouri Farm Bureau. Sixteen items representing a cross section agricultural product were surveyed. The total price rang in at $49.08 compared to $48.73 for the same items one year ago. That’s an increase of $35-cents. Overall, seven items including ground chuck, eggs and whole milk increased in price while nine items cost slightly less than in 2013. However, compared with the national average of $53.27, Missouri prices were $4.19 less.
