Former Missouri State Trooper Anthony Piercy receiving his final settlement payment from the state, following an ongoing battle to be reinstated as an officer.
Piercy lost his law enforcement license for pleading guilty in 2017 to the deadly drowning of 20-year-old Brandon Ellingson of Iowa in 2014.
Ellingson had been taken into custody by Piercy on the Lake of the Ozarks, in the newly formed Water Division of the Highway Patrol.
While in transport, Ellingson ended up in the water. He slipped out of his improperly secured life vest and since he was handcuffed, was unable to swim and drowned.
Piercy agreed to a $201,000 settlement from the state, so long as he would not be reinstated as an officer.
