Officials at Fort Leonard Wood have released the identity of the soldier that drowned on the Fourth of July. The Marine has been identified as PFC Corey Staten, originally from Maryland. Staten was a Basic Motor Transport Marine assigned to the Marine Corps Detachment at Fort Leonard Wood. He was swept away by the current in the Big Piney River on the Independence Day holiday. His body was recovered by search teams the following morning.
