The first boat wreck reported at the Lake over the holiday weekend sends four people to the emergency room…one with serious injuries. That’s according to the water patrol division of the highway patrol which says it happened at about 9:45 Saturday night near the one-half mile marker of the main channel. 50-year-old Timothy Cox, of Iowa, was headed upstream when he encountered a downstream boat being operated by 41-year-old Cletus Barsch of St. Joseph. Cox turned left, Barsch turned right and two boats collided. Neither operator was injured but one passenger in the Cox boat suffered serious injuries and was flown to University Hospital while two others, along with one passenger in the Barsch boat suffered minor injuries. No lifejackets were being worn at the time of the wreck. Barsch is being charged with BWI serious injury. He was taken to the Miller County Jail.
