A Fort Leonard Wood soldier is dead after falling down a 70 foot sinkhole in Pulaski County. The Sheriff’s Office says 31-year old Curtis Powelson fell into the hole on Monday night while searching for a deer while bow hunting off of Red Oak Lane in the Buckhorn area. Authorities found Powelson’s body early on Tuesday morning after a search at the bottom of a sinkhole that was about the size of a vehicle and 60 to 70 feet deep. Authorities say the hole may have opened after heavy rain in August. The Pulaski County Coroner has ruled Powelson’s death as accidental.
