It was an historic but short lived release at the Garrison Dam, yesterday. The U-S Army Corps of Engineers opened the spillway gates to let floodwaters pass for the first time in the history of the dam. But then, during a routine inspection, they noticed some water spray and closed the gates again. It was determined to be minor surface deterioration, and more releases are scheduled through the week end.
The Army Corps had a special viewing area set up on the west side of the spillway, yesterday.
