A state of emergency is now in effect. Governor Jay Nixon made the declaration Thursday morning because of the snow, sleet and ice that is falling throughout the state. This has created hazardous driving conditions on the roads and could also lead to power outages. The State Emergency Operations Center is monitoring the storm. Governor Nixon is receiving updates from the Department of Public Safety, the Missouri National Guard, the Highway Patrol and the State Emergency Management Agency. The Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan has also been activated. This allows state agencies to coordinate directly with local jurisdictions for emergency services.
