Governor Jay Nixon has asked that the White House declare an emergency for the state of Missouri, based on unprecedented flooding along the northern Missouri River system. Flooding from rain, snow pack melting and releases of water from reservoirs is predicted to affect every county along the river. Nixon asked for federal assistance for work and services to save lives and property, referring to community evacuations in Holt and Platte counties, and even flash flooding in Moniteau.
