The Gran Auglaize Swinging Bridge in Miller County is a step away from begin designated a historical site.

According to Kel Stal with the “Save The Historical Brumley Swinging Bridges” organization, the state of Missouri has approved the bridge to be submitted to the National Register of Historical Sites.

The next step is for officials in Washington to sign it into a proclamation, which Stal says is almost a guarantee.

The bridge is the larger of two cable swing bridges on Swinging Bridges Road near Brumley, which was built by Lake Area legendary bridge builder Joe Dice nearly 100 years ago.

Dice built a majority of the first era bridges across the Lake community, including the swinging bridge still in use on J Road near Camdenton and the now pedestrian bridge over the Lake in Warsaw.
