With new construction and property values taking a hit following the overall tanking of the economy in 2007, many entities around the country are looking for new sources of funding. The Gravois Fire District is no different according to Chief Ed Hancock who says the district faces a tough choice in asking the public to approve a future increase in the tax levy.
The district, which covers 150 square miles from the Upper Osage River to the Gravois Arm, most recently went to its patrons in 2006 getting an increase approved which went exclusively to adding paid firefighters. The levy district officials are asking for this time around, if approved, would be used to start replenishing reserves for future needs such as equipment.
