Although we got some recent relief in the way of rain over the weekend and some more rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Friday, natural cover fires will, likely, again be a problem this week. The Gravois Fire District is among the districts continuing to be stretched thin. Chief Ed Hancock says six of the district’s 13 calls for last week were dealing with natural cover fires, with at least five starting as controlled burns that got away. An outside deck and a storage building were damaged in one of the fires while several other structures were described as endangered in the other fires. Anyone wanting to do any open burning should first contact their local fire district to see if burning is being allowed for that day.
