A Gravois Mills Man is dead following a standoff with Benton County Police.
According to Sheriff Knox, 53-year-old Kenneth Lawson was suspected of assaulting his wife, who had been transferred to the hospital with injuries.
Investigators say Morgan County Deputies found a black handgun used in the assault, and that Lawson indicated he would quote “Not go back to prison” and would “Die at the hands of law enforcement.”
Benton Deputies caught Lawson traveling on Highway 52 at 65 near Cole Camp.
They say he refused to yield and ran off the road, getting stuck in the mud.
Deputies attempted to communicate with Lawson via loudspeaker, but Lawson eventually took his own life inside his car.
