Emergency response teams set in place for this past weekend’s Shootout event have to jump into real-life action Saturday morning. Jeff McCann was approaching the finish line when his 23-foot Donzi went out of control before spinning, rolling and ejecting him. Sunrise Beach Fire Chief Dennis Reilly says, fortunately, the response and rescue effort all went according to plans.
Six different agencies, plus nurses on the rescue boats, were involved in the effort. The driver, McCann, appeared to be unconscious when he hit the water and was taken to the hospital with, what was described as, non-life-threatening injuries…bumps, bruises and maybe a couple of broken ribs.
