Around 80 inmates that are serving life sentences for crimes they committed as minors are suing the state because they believe they’ve not been given a fair opportunity to be released. The men claim the state is not complying with a 2012 Supreme Court ruling that bans mandatory life without parole prison terms for minors. The state claims their actions against these men apply retroactively because they were sentenced before the 2012 ruling. The suit has been filed in the U.S. District Court’s western district of Missouri.
