A man who tried to drive on to Fort Leonard Wood and then led police on a high-speed chase has been captured in Rolla. Rolla Police Chief Mark Kearse identifies the suspect as 31-year-old Cody N. Willcoxson, of of South West City, Missouri. Authorities say the he drove through a security gate at the west entrance to Fort Leonard Wood this morning, then then led military police on a chase, driving out through the front gate when the St. Robert Police Department began a pursuit on Interstate 44, ending Rolla. Rolla Police Chief Mark Kearse says the driver was firing shots from what appeared to be an AK-47. The gunman briefly entered the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus, which went on lockdown shortly before 9 a.m. He was seen entering and leaving McNutt Hall, which houses the school’s Department of Mining and Nuclear Engineering, according to a University spokeswoman. Willcoxson was released from an Oklahoma prison in 2008 after serving about 3-½ years for burglary, escaping from jail, and other felonies. He was taken into custody this afternoon in Rolla.
