Hartzler Opposes Resolution on Equal Rights Amendment

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler is among those that opposed a resolution to attempt to allow ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Hartzler says she supports and celebrates the accomplishments of women and that the ERA would not bring them any more rights than they already have. Hartzler also cited a ruling from the Department of Justice in her opposition. The DOJ says Congress cannot revive a proposed amendment after a deadline for its ratification has expired. The ERA was passed in 1972. 38 states had to ratify it before it expired in March of 1979. 35 states had done so prior to the deadline, but five have since revoked their ratifications.
