The immediate future of a local fire district board may be decided on election day, but not by voters. A hearing has been scheduled for November 6th on a petition to determine if a member of the Sunrise Beach board is in fact a legal member. District treasurer Bob Hemen contends that Denise Dill is not a valid member of the board since she didn’t file for or win re-election in April. Dill had been appointed in 2016 to replace another board member who had resigned. State code appears to indicate that she should have filed for election in the next biennial election in which board members were chosen. The petition also requests the court to appoint a new member if it determines that Dill is not able to serve. That would get them back to two members which would allow them to appoint their own third board member.
