The highway patrol’s division of drug and crime control is turning to the public for possible information into what’s being called an ongoing sexual assault investigation in the Lake of the Ozarks. Sergeant Shawn Griggs says investigators are specifically looking for any information about sexual assaults which may have occurred over the past five years. The call goes out after the recent arrests of 41-year-old Carl Mort and 39-year-old Cassandra Wedeking, both from Overland Park, who are formally charged in Morgan County with first-degree rape and multiple counts of sodomy and drug charges. The sergeant goes on to explain that the typical incidents being investigated include a victim being befriended and then supplied with alcohol and/or drugs before being taken to a boat and sexually assaulted. The investigation is centering around the entire lake region of Camden, Miller and Morgan counties. Anyone with information or who may have been assaulted under the same circumstances should contact the highway patrol.
