As always, authorities are urging extra caution as we head into the Labor Day holiday weekend. The Highway Patrol says drivers should plan their routes before traveling and allow plenty of time to reach their destination. Also check your car and boat and all safety equipment before you embark to make sure that everything is in working order. Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness & Reduction Effort) will be in effect over the weekend, with officers focusing on speed, inattention, and impaired driving. Last year in Missouri, 11 people died and another 470 were injured in 1,048 accidents during the Labor Day weekend. The holiday counting period begins at 6 pm Friday and lasts until 11:59 Monday night.
