Plans for a Hollywood-style Lake of the Ozarks welcome sign are back in the fast lane. The project ran into a roadblock when state transportation officials decided they wanted the city of Lake Ozark, rather than the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, to enter into a license agreement and take on responsibility for the sign. But Joe Roeger, head of the Chamber’s beautification committee, says that’s now been resolved, and MoDOT may have a permit ready for the Chamber to sign off on by the end of the week. Roeger says fundraising for the $50,000 sign with eight-foot tall letters and LED lighting was put on hold while the project appeared stalled, and the sign won’t be ready by December, when the Highway 242 Connector opens, as originally planned. He says the timetable has now been pushed back to Spring.
