A disabled Kansas City man was rescued Thursday after homeless shelter volunteers initially mistook him for a ‘pile of garbage’ beneath the snow. The man was reportedly waiting for the shelter to open its doors, when he fell asleep under a tarp.

Volunteers quickly rushed the man inside to get warm.

More than seven inches of snow fell on the Kansas City area Thursday, and the shelter saw more than 125 people throughout the day.
