A Lake Area Representative’s bill regarding property assessment has passed through the Legislative Oversight Committee. House Bill 632, which is sponsored by Representative Diane Franklin, was passed on Wednesday. The bill, which was discussed in a public hearing at the same time as the bill regarding nightly rentals, House Bill 608, is looked at favorably by many Lake Area residents. It would clarify that property that is used as both a residence and transient housing could only be assessed as residential property. While looked at favorably, some residents are worried it may be amended to include a pro-rated clause for those who use their home as a nightly rental, in which case many say they would no longer support it. The bill does not appear on a House calendar at this time.
