House Bill Looks To Abolish The Death Penalty In Missouri

A House Bill seeking to abolish the death penalty and set the maximum sentence to life in prison without parole is on the move in this year’s General Assembly.

Sponsored by the 94th District’s Jim Murphy, a Republican from St. Louis, the bill was read the first and second times early in the session before being referred just last week to committee which took up the bill in a public hearing with no action being reported.

There are two other similar, if not identical, bills which were also filed in the house and read for a second time each but have stalled since then.
