The House of Representatives in Jefferson City will be hearing a bill to overturn the new bail rules that were put in place by the Supreme Court last July. House Bill 1937 was introduced by Representative Justin Hill of Lake St. Louis. The rules severely limit the ability of judges to impose monetary conditions for release of the accused prior to their trial. It has led to an increase in failure to appear rates as well as a number of defendants re-offending, often within just a matter of days after their release.
