With the start of deer season coming up this weekend, hunters across the state are being encouraged to “share the harvest” by donating venison to the state’s food banks and pantries. The annual program helps provide high-quality protein to families in need. Last year, hunters donated over 289,000 pounds of meat, including nearly 5600 whole deer. Nearly four million pounds have been donated since the program began in 1992. Deer season begins Saturday and lasts through January 15th.
