The man accused of killing his step niece will be in court on Monday for a preliminary hearing. 30-year old Steven Henderson of Iberia is charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 13-year old Macala Shelton. She was reported missing in June before Henderson led authorities to her body near an abandoned farm. After an interview, he told authorities that he stabbed her with a large survival knife and also told them where they would find the knife. It was found in the house Henderson lived in with Shelton. Henderson is being held in the Miller County Jail on a bond of 500 thousand dollars.
