Iberia Man Dies In Crash On HWY 17 Near Tuscumbia

One person is dead following a crash in Miller County, that had a portion of Highway 17 near Tuscumbia closed overnight.

The Highway Patrol says 28-year-old Dakota Veasman of Iberia was speeding in his 2007 Tractor Trailer when he failed to negotiate a curve near Mount Zion Road.

Investigators say he slammed on his breaks, began to skid, crossed over the center line and left the roadway, slamming into a rock bluff and overturning.

Veasman was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
