Some people who suffer from PTSD are finding a different way to cope with their symptoms and the effects of the disorder. It’s called “applied improv” and it works by channeling the patient’s focus onto one thing at a time.
Jason Young from Vintage Theatre Company says they’re teaching the methods and techniques to counselors who work with the PTSD patients on a regular basis. He discussed the practice on “The Ozarks Today” on KRMS. It’s believed that using improv as treatment or a coping mechanism can be applied to anyone suffering from PTSD, including veterans and victims of domestic abuse.
