It only took a few minutes before jurors called it “accidental” with the death of 20 year old Brandon Ellingson of Iowa, the young man who fell out of the back of a Highway Patrol Water Boat. Ellingson was being transported by Trooper Anthony Piercy for suspicion of boating while intoxicated back in may when he entered the water, handcuffed, and was not able to stay afloat after falling through his PFD. A coroner’s inquest was held Thursday in Morgan County to see if there had been a crime or any negligence by the highway patrol in the case. A toxicology test had revealed that Ellington had trace amounts of cocaine along with alcohol in his system at the time of his death. Ellingson’s attorney noted that the family was not happy with the result and plan to file a civil suit.
