State Lawmakers are looking to increase safety at the lake by increasing the age requirement for lifejackets.

Kansas City Senator Lauren Arthur pre-filed bill SB-913, also known as “Hannah’s Law,” for the 2022 session.

The law aims to increase the age for mandatory lifejacket use while aboard a boat from seven years old, to twelve.

The bill also includes mandating lifejackets for those swimming in water deeper than three feet, but would not apply to private swimming pools.

Multiple similar laws have been proposed since 2011, but none have ever passed.
