At tonight’s Osage Beach board of aldermen meeting, the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will be asking for a $5,000 donation to help pay for a ‘Hollywood’-style welcome sign they hope to erect at the east entrance to the Lake. Joe Roeger, chairman of the Chamber’s beautification committee says that’s the amount that Osage Beach contributed in 1998 for construction of the existing welcome garden sign, across from Denny’s, “and it would go a long way toward the $40-50 thousand that we need for this new sign.” made contributed. The proposed sign would consist of eight-foot-tall letters, spelling out ‘Lake of the Ozarks,’ with programmable, multi-colored L-E-D lighting powered by solar and wind energy. It would be built along the 54 Expressway, across from the entrance to Route 242. “That Highway 54 eastern entrance, right as you cross the river, is where most visitors come to Lake of the Ozarks, so a lot of fols will see it,” Roeger says.
