The Laclede County R-1 Board of Education is making security upgrades at all schools in the Conway District. Back in December, the Laclede County R-1 Board of Education approved a $17,461 bid from Atlas Security of Springfield to install magnetic locks on doors at the Conway High School and Junior High buildings as well as Ezard Elementary School. The schools also will be fitted with a monitor and intercom system at the building’s main entrances, so visitors will have to identify themselves and be electronically buzzed in before they can enter. Superintendent Tanya Vest said, “We’re long past the time of letting people come and go as they please. We still want people to feel welcome, but we also have to provide security.” She also stated some of the district’s biggest safety concerns are the schools’ close proximity to interstate 44 and incidents around the country like the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
