The workers at Lake Area Industries may not realize how much good their labor does for the environment. For decades, dock foam has been filling up landfills around the Lake of the Ozarks. Lake Area Industries has come up with a way to provide jobs and in the meantime, recycle lots of this unused dock foam. The LAI Executive Director Tiffany Maasen said “Those dump sites have as much as 10,000 cubic yards of material on each side”
Now the Lake Area Industries is breaking up the foam in smaller chunks, painting them black and selling them to a company to be used for new products such as picture frames.
With mountains of foam to be recycled, employees at LAI have lots of work ahead of them.
