Coming on the heels of an early-morning six-point-two earthquake striking Italy, the Lake Area felt buildings shake and heard what was described by many as a loud boom. It happened around 5:00 Wednesday afternoon prompting dozens of phone calls to local law enforcement and people taking to social media describing what they felt and heard. The brief shaking and loud noise also reported across most of the region leading to some speculation wondering if the shaking may have been an earthquake. That was NOT the case, however, according to the United States Geological Survey office. The U-S-G-S did say there were three minor earthquakes…two 2.5’s and a 3.4 magnitude reported between Oklahoma City and Tulsa…probably not within range of feeling them here in Missouri leaving the likely cause of the excitement in the Lake Area being another sonic boom.
