Lake Area Fire Districts Stretched Thin Over the Weekend Despite Red Flag Warning Having Been Issued

Local News Tuesday, March 10th, 2020

Rain may have put a damper on many activities earlier this week, but Mother Nature couldn’t have delivered at a better time for fire districts in the lake area. Numerous natural cover fires were reported over the weekend…many at a time when a Red Flag Warning calling for no burning was in effect. Among the districts kept busy was Mid-County which responded to ten calls on Saturday and another 15 on Sunday. Chief Scott Frandsen says, in addition to helping out on calls in several other districts, most of the responses within the Mid-County district dealt with natural cover fires…mainly in the southwest part of the district. All totaled, a combined 600 acres went up in flames. Fortunately, no structures were apparently damaged and there were no injuries reported. More rain in the forecast this week should extend the break firefighters are currently getting from responding to the natural cover calls.
