You could help water quality on the lake, and become a bit of an expert in landscaping, just by volunteering a few hours of your time. Dawn Robinson explains.
The Lake of the Ozarks Watershed Alliance is looking for people to become Trained Volunteer Evaluators. TVEs will be a big part of LOWA’s low impact landscaping project. There are techniques for design and maintenance of lawn and garden that reduce the amount of rainwater runoff into the lake. It’s that runoff that can cause a problem with toxins and bacteria levels. LOWA will have a training session for men and women who want to volunteer, tomorrow from one to four at the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District’s administration buidling on Highway 5. Once trained, volunteers will help other residents by instructing on what to plant and where, how to run soil tests and incorporate low impact landscaping practices into lawn care. Find out more about the program at soslowa.org. I’m DR.
