The Lake Ozark Board of Aldermen heard the case for hiring a new police officer last night at their bi-monthly meeting. Discussion centered on whether it was affordable. Alderman VanDonsel spoke in favor of the hiring, citing an overwhelming concern for public safety. The rest of the board, however, did not see a pressing need to hire an additional officer immediately, and tabled the matter for further discussion at a future meeting. Police Chief Mark Maples expressed disappointment, but says he remains confident that another officer will be hired, t is just a matter of when.
In other business, the Board voted unanimously to approve the refinancing of a bond valued at $1.68 million. The 20 year refi will save the city $213,000 over the life of the bond, with the most savings this year.
