Lake Regional Health System hopes that additional training and education will help address a persistent problem identified on their assessment of health needs in the region. Mental health has been a consistent concern, having been identified as a priority item as far back as 2012. In the latest community health assessment released this month, it was identified as the top health concern in the region. As part of their plan to address it, the hospital says they’ll be training more professionals to become certified instructors. They’ll then use that training to teach mental health first aid classes around the region. The goal is to have 10% of their staff trained in the next three years, just in time for the next health assessment report.
