A recent community assessment labeled mental health as the top heath priority in the lake area. Lake Regional Health System’s report also identified several ways in which they plan to address that problem. One of them is with better access to help and information. They’re hopeful that a series of events coming up will help them in that regard. Lake Regional will be sponsoring a series called “Mental Health Awareness Days” featuring presentations designed to raise awareness of the issue. Those are scheduled for May 2nd, May 6th, and May 16th in Camden, Miller, and Morgan counties. They’re also offering a second course on mental health first aid, designed to teach people how to recognize and respond to young people in an emotionally disturbed state who may be dealing with mental health issues. For more information on any of these activities, call the community outreach office at 348-8222.
