A local Board of Aldermen is making an attempt to bring a post office back to their town. The Laurie Post Office closed on January 31st of this year after five years of operation, during which it generated $1.5 million. However, since it’s a federal business, Morgan County was only able to keep a portion of those funds, which were not enough to remain open. Earlier this week, the board expressed their hope to bring one back. They have begun writing letters to local State Representatives, asking them to contact the U.S. Postal Service about opening a federal post office. They encourage the other Laurie residents to do the same.
