Laurie residents could be asked to pay a higher sales tax. The board of aldermen is scheduled to hold first and second readings on a proposal to implement a quarter of a percent tax on retail sales when they meet on Tuesday. The money generated by the sales tax would be used to help fund public safety within the city. If the board passes the measure, it would then be up to the voters to decide on in the April 2nd municipal election. Laurie’s board of aldermen meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 11th at 6pm and will be held in Laurie city hall.
