The city of Laurie will have a brand new city hall soon. Last Wednesday, the Board of Aldermen approved buying the ReMax building on Highway 5 next to Sonic. According to Public Works Director Ed Young, the building and property was appraised at a value of $1.8 million but the city got it for just $350,000. The new city hall will have 8,100-square-foot upstairs and downstairs and will house the police department, with ReMax renting the upper portion. Young says that the rental income will enable the city to pay back sewer reserve funds in just 10 years. They will have 180 days to move in to the new location.
