Now that the Laurie Board of Aldermen has approved the purchase of a police dog, fund-raising is underway. Police Chief Shane Edwards said money had begun pouring in even before Aldermen gave the okay. In addition to dog care and handling one of Laurie’s police cruisers will have to be retrofitted to handle a K-9 unit. Chief Edwards believes a cruiser currently in service will be used for the K-9 team rather than get traded in on the purchase of a new police cruiser. The board’s approval this week hinged on the stipulation that $15,000 be raised. If you’d like to help, donations may be mailed to the city at Post Office Box 1515 in Laurie.
