The city of Laurie is getting a garden, but not just any garden. Former Mayor Chuck Chorpening is working with the Laurie Care Center’s Garden Committee to obtain a grant from the state to build the community garden. The center already has a vegetable garden for it’s residents but the new garden could supply free produce to the less fortunate citizens in the community. In addition to the garden, the LCC is also applying for another grant to build a wellness park with a walking trail which will offer exercise equipment for the elderly. They’re hoping to get the trail to connect to a new line of sidewalks that will be built on highway O.
