Bradley and Lacy Davis attended this week’s Laurie Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting to request a city zoning ordinance be amended to allow R-1, R-2 and R-3 permitted use in a commercial district. The request first went before the Laurie Board of Aldermen in November resulting in a split vote. The tie was broken by a nay vote from the Mayor. The Davis’ own a home located at 103 Forrest Road. The purpose for the rezoning request was to allow the use of the home as a residence for a family member. The current zoning on the property is commercial which does not allow for residential use. Bradley Davis submitted his argument saying he believed the priorities of the city should be sustainable, livable neighborhoods and that this ordinance change could achieve that. But despite Davis’ argument it was stated at the meeting that nothing more will be done at this time regarding the issue.
