A proposed sales tax in Laurie would be used to helpprovide funding for the city’s police force. The board of aldermen tabled a similar request last year after initially considering placing it on the ballot in the April election. City Clerk Vanessa Hebrank says the ¼-of a percent tax would generate roughly $70,000, which could be used to hire a new officer.
The Laurie Police Department currently has five total officers including the Chief of Police.
