Strong opinions are being voiced by state lawmakers regarding whether or not they can use a new constitutional amendment next month to override some of Governor Nixon’s budget cuts. Last month, voters approved an amendment that permits the legislature to reverse the governor’s spending restrictions by a two-thirds vote. Currently Nixon is restricting $700 million dollars of spending and some at the state capital believe the new amendment can be cited to overturn the restrictions. Other lawmakers believe the amendment cannot be used to override an action that took place prior to voters approving the amendment.
